Female friendly car mechanics

Most female drivers feel intimidated when they take their car into a garage for servicing, according to a new poll, and many would prefer women-only garages. Women's car insurer Diamond surveyed 4000 women and found that 52% find garage visits daunting, and 31% would rather deal with a garage staffed by women.

So it’s no wonder that ‘FOXY choice’ is now a leading search site for ‘female friendly’ garages. The website allows women (and men) to search for garages and car dealerships who have all signed the ‘FOXY choice promise’. The promise states “to never knowingly overcharge, patronise or sell customers services that do not need or want”.
The website safetygirl.com (http://safetygirl.com/pink-tool.html) has introduced a huge range of D.I.Y tools ranging from 135 piece tool kit to a light weight pink hammer. The products are female friendly, many are lightweight and decorated in pink. Some products donate a portion of each purchase to help fund breast cancer awareness initiatives.

In 1989, there were 880,000 automobile service and repair technicians. 6,000 of them were women.

One in four girls aged between 11 and 16 is actively considering a career that needs technical skills like those of a mechanic, the AA study of 2,000 people claimed.
Almost 1,000 women wrote to the AA to take part in its year-long apprenticeship, double the number in previous years. So garages are expected to become a lot more female friendly.
